SIOUX CITY, IA. (NewsDakota.com) – For the first time since joining the Great Plains Athletic Conference, the #19 ranked University of Jamestown women’s basketball team picked up a key win at Morningside, taking down the Mustangs 83-79.

In the eighth straight win for Jamestown, it was the seniors who led the charge late. Kia Tower and Hannah DeMars each scored 21 points and combined for a perfect 14-for-14 at the free throw line.

In the first three quarters of play, Morningside and Jamestown exchanged blows as the game swung back and forth. The Mustangs led by three after one, with the Jimmies taking a two point lead into the break and at the end of the third quarter.

Three pointers fell at key times for Sarah Lenz throughout the course of the game, including at the end of the first half to send Jamestown into the break ahead 37-35. In the fourth, Lenz hit another major three, ending the night with 12 points off the bench.

Free throws ultimately played the most important role in the victory for Jamestown as the Jimmies went 17-for-20 at the line. Tower was 8-for-8 and DeMars went 6-for-6. Audrey Rodakowski also finished in double figures with 11 points, but her biggest performance came on defense with three blocks.

The Jimmies held Morningside to 43% shooting from the field and 40% from deep. The Mustangs were 7-for-11 at the line.

With the win, Jamestown improves to 20-5 overall and 15-4 in the GPAC. The Jimmies remain in second place in the conference standings with Briar Cliff only a game behind.
