JAMESTOWN, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The District 5 Girls Basketball Tournament began on Friday February 10th at the Jamestown Civic Center. Day one saw all the higher seeds continue onto the semifinals.

GAME 1: LaMoure-LM 51 – 22 Ellendale

The LaMoure-LM Loboes controlled all aspects of play taking down the Cardinals 51-22. They got started early and never looked back leading 22-8 at the half and continuing to put on the pressure in the 2nd half.

The Loboes were lead in scoring by Nora Delabarre who scored 18 0n the night. She would earn the player of the game as well on the night.

Ellendale was lead in scoring Mya Glenn who would tally 5 points going 2/3.

The Loboes now take on Carrington in the semifinals on Saturday February 11th.

Game 2: Oakes 56 – 10 BCN

Barnes County North was just unable to get anything going against the #9 team in the state.

The Tornadoes jumped out early and played stellar defense to prevent BCN from getting a point in the first quarter. The Tornadoes led going into the half 37-3. Jayden Samek would come alive in the 3rd quarter to drop 7 points and go 3/4. It was not enough however as the Tornadoes would win 56-10.

The Tornadoes were led in scoring by Lily Thorpe who had 12 on the night going 6/6 and Emma Muggli who had 12 going 5/7 from the field and 2/2 from the charity stripe.

The Bison were led by Jayden Samek who had 10 going 4/10 from the field.

BCN will now take on Griggs-Midkota in the elimination game.

The Tornadoes will take on Edgley-Kulm-Montpelier in the night cap semifinal.

Game 3: EKM 57 – 22 Griggs-Midkota

The Titans struggled to find momentum early and were unable to stop the Rebels as the fell in the night cap.

The Rebels started early going up 20-3 in the first quarter they would continue to put on the pressure throughout the rest of the game going up 36-7 to end the 1st half. Griggs-Midkota would be unable to get much going in the second half either as the Rebels would keep building out the lead and would take the win by a score of 57-22.

The Rebels were led in scoring my Mataeya Mathern going 6/10 from the field and 4/4 on from the line for 16 points. She would be named player of the game.

The Titans were led by Vanessa Volmer who went 3/8 from the field for 6 points.
