WIMBLEDON, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes wrapped up their final game of District 5 Regular season play with a loss against Barnes County North. They would fall just short of a comeback losing 47-46.
The game started poorly for the Tornadoes shooting 0/11 (UNOFFICIALLY) in the first quarter from the field. Their only points in the quarter were 4 free throws. The Bison didn’t get many points either. The quarter as a whole would be low scoring with BCN up 8-4 after it wrapped up.
The second quarter saw the Bison expand their lead a bit. They would get up to 23 points at the end of the half shooting 5/7 in the second. The Tornadoes got their first field goal almost 11 minutes into the game. At the half BCN led 23-17.
The third quarter saw the Tornadoes start mounting their comeback only allowing 3 baskets in the quarter and cutting the lead down to 4 points. The quarter would end 35-32.
The fourth quarter was the best quarter for Oakes, specifically Trey Skoglund. He’d go 2/2 from the field and go 7/8 from the charity stripe for 11 points in the quarter. He’d help the Tornadoes take a lead a couple times however BCN did just enough with a combination of Jonah Harstad nailing a 3 and Hanson getting a couple to take the lead and hold it. Oakes almost took the lead back in the final minute with Joey Heim just missing a shot and Skoglund missing an off balance last second shot that rolled off the rim. They would fall 47-46.
The Bison will now take 5th in the District and they will take on LaMoure-LM in the first round of the District Tournament. The Oakes Tornadoes will fall the 6th and take on EKM who fell to Carrington.
The Bank North Player of the Game was given to Trey Skoglund who finished the game with 18 points, 14 of which came from the 2nd half.
The Tornadoes now take on Maple River on Saturday, February 11th.
