VALLEY CITY, ND (NewsDakota.com) The Jamestown High School speech team qualified nine speakers for the state meet in it’s two January competitions.
Jamestown had 11 placewinners at the Valley City speech meet Jaunary 14th. Anja McDermid won Extemproaneous Programmed Reading (EPR) and Poetry, and Will Nelson won Impromptu Speaking, both qualifying for state in those events.
Nelson was second in Extemporaneous Speaking, and the duo of Ross Motter and Brooke Wickens were second in Humorous Duo.
Haley Mathias was third in Extemporaneous, Motter third in Serious Prose and Dramatic Interpretation, Tyler Piehl was fifth in Inform, Eden Ellingson was seventh in Dramatic, and Nevaeh Romfo was seventh in EPR.
Seven additional events qualified in the Linton meet on January 21st. Ellingson won Dramatic, Matthew Motschenbacher won Persuade and Storytelling, all state qualifying standards.
Ellingson also qualified for state with partner Autumn Roberts with a second-place finish in Serious Duo, Cece Maulding and Trinity Cross qualified with a second-place finish in Humorous Duo, and Emma Hoke qualified with a second-place finish in Entertain.
Hoke and Lizzy Nihill were third in Humorous Duo, and Hoke was also fourth in Humorous Interpretation, while Nihill added a fourth in Radio Broadcasting. Maulding added a third in Serious Prose. Sophia Bilowith was fourth in Impromptu, McDermid was fourth in Poetry and sixth in Serious Prose, and Roberts added a fourth in Storytelling. Sophia Bilowith was eighth in Entertain, and Rebecca Lloyd was eighth in Persuade.
Jamestown will compete February 11th at Bismarck St. Marys, Fargo South on the 18th, and West Fargo on the 25th. The team is coached by Laura Weis and Madison Solwey.
