OAKES, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The #9 Oakes Tornadoes took home the victory against District 5 rival the LaMoure-Litchville/Marion Loboes on Thursday January 26th. They would take home the victory with a final score of 55-40.
The game started out close with Oakes taking an early lead. However the Loboes started to get the 3-ball working early and were able to tie it up at 13 at the end of the first quarter.
The Loboes would continue with this momentum for the first part of the 2nd quarter. They would hold a 3-4 point lead for most of the quarter before the Tornadoes started to get some momentum back and cut the lead down to 2. Laikyn Roney would then drain a buzzer beating 3 to end the half to claim a 22-21 lead going to the half.
The 3rd quarter was all Oakes as Roney would light up the Loboes for 10 points. The Loboes would shoot an unofficial 2/6 in the quarter as the Tornadoes held them to just 7 points allowing them to claim a 39-28 lead going into the final frame.
Norah Delabarre was able to get back into the score book in the 4th quarter. She had 10 points in the first half but only 1 in the third quarter. She was able to collect 7 more points in the 4th leading all scoring in that quarter however the Loboes were not able to come back and the Tornadoes were able to hold and build onto their lead mostly from the charity stripe. They would win 55-40.
The Bank North Player of the Game was given to Laikyn Roney who went 8/19 from the field and 10/14 from the charity stripe for 27 points leading all scoring.
The Tornadoes are now 4-1 in the District and 12-2 overall they now play Medina/Pingree/Buchanan on Saturday January 28th. The Loboes fall to 3-3 in the District and 7-9 overall they now play at Enderlin on Saturday January 28th.
