HASTINGS, Neb.– The Jimmie women’s basketball team won its third straight game Saturday afternoon, defeating Hastings College 68-62 at Lynn Farrell Arena

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Six lead changes and one tie occurred in the first 5:15 of the game before Sarah Lenz put Jamestown in front for good with a three-pointer at the 5:04 mark.
  • UJ built up a six-point lead before Hastings closed the quarter on a 5-0 run to make it 19-18.
  • The Jimmies continued to lead by as many as six after baskets by Kate Busek and Hannah DeMars with just over five minutes left in the half.
  • The Broncos trimmed the lead to two following a Mariyah Avila basket with 1:48 left, then the teams traded three-pointers (Kia Tower and Lenz for UJ; Avila for Hastings) to close out the half with Jamestown leading 36-34.
  • Busek and Lenz each hit from long distance as part of an 8-1 run to start the third quarter as the Jimmies went up 44-35 at the 6:07 mark.
  • Hastings got as close as five (49-44) with 2:11 left in the third, but a three-point play from DeMars and a three-pointer by Kate Cordes helped UJ go ahead by 10 at the 1:14 mark.
  • The fourth quarter opened with Hastings on a 5-0 run to get with 55-52, but Jamestown responded with a 7-0 run to go back in front by double digits (62-52) with 6:14 to play. The lead stayed between 7 and 10 points until Alyssa Baker made a three with nine seconds left, and the game ended 68-62.

JAMESTOWN GAME NOTES

  • The Jimmies shot 42.1 percent (24-of-57) from the floor, including 32.3 percent (10-of-31) from three-point range.
  • DeMars filled the stat sheet with 17 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, and three steals.
  • Tower scored 15 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and dished out six assists.
  • Lenz and Audrey Rodakowski each finished with nine points.

HASTINGS GAME NOTES

  • The Broncos shot 37.5 percent (21-of-56) from the floor, including 30.8 percent (8-of-26) from three-point range.
  • Avila had 14 points, including four three-pointers, while Allison Bauer finished with 11 and Baker had 10.
  • Hastings lost to the Jimmies for the third time in their last four meetings.
