JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The (RV) University of Jamestown women’s basketball team was in another tight game on Wednesday night as the Jimmies fell 70-66 at Newman Arena to #21 Briar Cliff.
Jamestown led after the opening quarter as the Jimmies shot the three well in the first 10 minutes. The second quarter swung the other way in favor of Briar Cliff, helping the Chargers take a 37-33 lead into the half. Kia Tower led Jamestown with seven first half points while Konnor Sudman had 19 for Briar Cliff.
A Kate Cordes two-point jumper helped Jamestown grab a 54-53 lead to open the fourth quarter. The Jimmies grabbed a four point lead with under three minutes to go before a 9-0 run by Briar Cliff made it 65-61.
UJ brought the Cliff lead down to two points and had free throws to try and tie at the end, but the first shot from Hannah DeMars missed, forcing her to miss the second in an attempt to get a rebound. The Chargers rebounded the miss and ended the game with two made free throws.
DeMars 21 points and 10 rebounds paced Jamestown offensively. Tower ended the night with 18 points and a 6-for-8 performance at the line. The senior from Bigfork, Minnesota, has now scored 13+ in eight of the last nine games. Sudman’s 24 points for Briar Cliff were a game-high.
The Jimmies, now 12-5 overall and 7-4 in the GPAC, have lost three in a row. All three losses have come to teams in the top 25. Jamestown takes on Concordia (NE) Saturday at 2:00 PM from Newman Arena.
