Art Trader, age 95, of Valley City died Dec 6, 2012 at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City.  Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 PM Thursday, Dec 13th at the Lerud-Schuldt Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Forsberg officiating.  Visitation will be from 4 PM until 7 PM Wednesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services.  Interment will be in Oriska Cemetery.

     Arthur August Trader was born June 5, 1917 near Oriska, ND to Charles and Emma (Priebe) Trader. Art was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran of Oriska and attended school there.

     He farmed with the family until the Pearl Harbor attack. He served four years in the US Army 1942-1945. He fought on Guadalcanal, Bougainville, New Hebrides, Fiji Islands, Leyte, and Luzun in the Phillipines. Art was twice wounded in combat and lost several buddies.

     Art came home from his military service and farmed and owned his own sprayer business. He farmed and took care of his Dad for many years. Art continued to farm on the family farm after his dad’s passing and helped out with the farming up to his 90th birthday. He lived his final years in Valley City.

     Art loved hunting and fishing, alone or with friends and relatives. He was always full of stories and sharing his experiences with everyone. He met yearly in South Dakota with his WWII buddies until he may have been the only one left.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters Eleanor Martinson, Irma Swanke, and Mae Triebold, 3 brothers Carl, Donald and Earl Trader and several brothers- and sisters-in-law.

     He leaves behind a sister Dorothy Young of Valley City, 3 brothers, Fred Trader of Omaha, Albert and LeRoy Trader of Valley City, and many nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces.
