VALLEY CITY, ND  (NewsDakota.com)  Two solid teams awaited the Hi-Liners at the end of a long Tuesday night road trip.

Grand Forks Red River swept a basketball double header from Valley City Tuesday night.  The fourth-ranked Roughrider girls steadily pulled away from the Hi-Liners, winning 66-39, while the third-ranked Red River boys used a strong second half to top Valley City 83-54.

The Roughrider girls used an early 11-0 run to take a 17-3 lead, and steadily stretched the lead to 36-12 by halftime.  Red River’s pressure defense, led by Division I-commit Jocie Schiller, forced the Hi-Liners into multiple turnovers Valley City couldn’t overcome.

Carly Goven led the Hi-Liners in scoring with 11 to record Ivy Real Estate Group Player of the Game honors.  Valley City is now 1-5 on the season

Boys play saw the Hi-Liners fight to within 10 points at the break, but Red River held Valley City to just three field goals for the first 9:48 of the second half to pull away.  The Hi-Liners rallied down by 14 in the opening half, cutting the lead to 27-21 before falling behind by 25 halfway through the second half.

Calahan Burchill scored 12 for the Hi-Liners earning Ivy Real Estate Group Player of the Game honors.  The Hi-Liners fell to 0-7 overall.

Next up for both teams will be West Fargo Horace, the newest team in the Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC), Thursday.   Girls play will be at the Hi-Liner Activity Center, and the boys will travel to Horace.
