MCHENRY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com/KFGO) – A judge will consider a change of trial location request in the case of a man charged with murder in the September death of another man in McHenry, North Dakota.
Shannon Brandt is accused of running down 18-year-old Cayler Ellingson with his car following a street dance. District Judge Bradley Cruff has set aside two weeks for the trial and scheduled it for May 30th.
Brandt’s lawyer and the Foster county state’s attorney agree that the trial should be moved to another county because of the high-profile nature of the case. The death drew widespread attention after initial reports suggested that Brandt claimed the death was politically motivated, something state patrol investigators have denied.
