CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) A new North Dakota law that bans smoking in public places went into effect December 6 and Valley City bar owner Ryan Mathias says it’s a law he and other owners will have to embrace and adapt to in the coming months.

Smoking is also prohibited within 20 feet of entrances, exits and ventilation systems attached to enclosed public places. But Mathias who owns the Nu Bar is working with the city to see what type of structure he can build to accommodate smokers in the future.

Vicki Voldal Rosenau, tobacco prevention coordinator with the City County Health Department will work with local business owners make the implementation smoother.

For more information about the smoke-free law, contact CCHD at 845-8518, or the Center for Tobacco Prevention & Control Policy at 1-877-277-5090 or go to info@breathend.com.
