ELLENDALE, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes and the Ellendale Cardinals met for a double header on Dec 27th in Ellendale. The Tornadoes girls took home a convincing victory while the Cardinal boys kept the Cowbell in the 77th edition of the annual Cowbell Game.

GIRLS: Oakes 49 – Ellendale 25

The Oakes Girls took a quick lead and didn’t look back. Kassidy Jackson was a  standout player coming into start in place of Laikyn Roney, who was out for the night, she would go into the first half drilling a couple threes going 2-4 from the field and 1-2 at the charity stripe. The Tornadoes would head to the locker room with a comfortable 21-13 lead.

The second half saw the Tornadoes expand on their 8 point lead and they would quickly make it 33-20 by the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter saw the Tornadoes finish the game well with several big steals by Jackson that would lead to points. The final would be 49-25 with Ellendale holding onto the Cowbell for the 12th straight year.

The Tornadoes were lead in scoring by Jackson and Emma Muggli. Jackson would go 4-7 with 3 three-pointers and 1-2 from the foul line ending the night with 12 points. Muggli would go 5-12 with 1 three and 1-2 from the charity stripe for a total of 12 points.

BOYS: Ellendale 58 – Oakes 44

The Cowbell Game started really close for both teams. It was a high flying fast paced game at first with no team being able to truly get a lead. The Tornadoes were being led by Trey Skoglund and Andrew Wolff as the first quarter ended tied at 11 apiece. However the 2nd quarter saw the Cardinals outscore the Tornadoes 20-7 ending the half up 31-18.

The third quarter started with nothing being able to fall for the frustrated Tronadoes and everything falling for the Cardinals. Skoglund and Wolff led the scoring for the Tornadoes but the Tornadoes just could not catch back up to the Cardinals falling 58-44.

Trey Skoglund was named the Bank North Player of the Game going 3-11 with 2 threes and 6-7 from the foul line for a total of 14 points.

The next game for the Tornado Girls is on January 3rd at EKM. The next game for the Tornado Boys will be on December 30th at home against Hankinson. Both games can be heard on KDDR 1220 AM/100.3 FM and on NewsDakota.com.
