VALLEY CTIY, ND  (NewsDakota.com)  A run of 18 straight points in three bouts gave Grand Forks Central control of the dual Tuesday, as they topped the Hi-Liners 39-25.

Valley City, missing a heavyweight to fill their lineup, forfeited the weight class, and the Knights followed it with falls by Rhys Safratowich over Chase Coghlan at 106 and Cesar Cruz over Gabby Hannig at 113 to take a 27-6 lead at the halfway point.

Falls were elusive for the Hi-Liners, with their two six-pointers coming from Koltyn Grebel over Central’s Zach Nelson at 23 seconds at 120, and Koye Grebel winning by fall at 1:54 at 138.

Espen Kunze upset the fifth-ranked 138 pounder, Brenden Winn-Kelley at 145 with a head-and-arm throw at the horn, netting a five-point move for a 7-6 win.  Zunze was named Ivy Real Estate Group Wrestler of the Match.

Valley City falls to 2-2 in Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) wrestling.  With losses to Central and Fargo Davies, the Hi-Liners will need a win over either West Fargo or West Fargo Sheyenne to keep their hopes at a berth in the state duals alive.

The Hi-Liners host their holiday tournament Friday.
