JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A powerful winter storm that shut down nearly the entire state of North Dakota is continuing to cause travel problems.

The winter storm that has been bringing heavy snow and ice is continuing to produce snowfall, especially in central parts of North Dakota. Meteorologist Alex Edwards of the National Weather Service in Bismarck says the area can expect more snow to fall today, and then the wind will blow in…

Edwards says the storm is stalled out over the central Dakotas and will eventually continue to shift westward. The Jamestown area can expect another 3 to 4 inches of snow on Thursday afternoon along with the strong winds.

Edwards said snowfall totals ranged from 12.2 inches in Bismarck to 9 inches at the State Hospital in Jamestown. Fessenden reported 12 inches.

Edwards says the system will slowly make its way out of the area by Friday evening. A cold high-pressure system will follow it for the weekend and early next week. Temperatures will be 20 to 30 degrees below normal. High temperatures on Monday and Tuesday will struggle to reach 0.
