KANSAS CITY, Mo. (jimmiepride.com)– Kalli Hegerle (SR/West Fargo, N.D.) has been chosen as the 2022 NAIA Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year, the national office announced Friday.
The setter/opposite hitter recorded a total of 420 kills on the season for an average of three kills per set and a total of 832 assists for an average of 5.94 per set in helping the Jimmies to its first national title. Hegerle earned All-American honors for the third time as a Jimmie, second time as a first-teamer.
Ellie Holen (JR/LaMoure, N.D.) was named the 2022 NAIA Women’s Volleyball Defender of the Year. Holen set a new Jimmie record with 862 digs on the season, an increase of almost 200 more digs than she had last season. The libero averaged 6.39 digs per set and made only 32 reception errors on 653 serve receive attempts. Holen also set a new personal best with 44 digs in the championship match. In addition, Holen was also named as a second team NAIA All-American. She also won back-to-back Defender of the Tournament awards.
Jon Hegerle was been named the 2022 NAIA Women’s Volleyball Coach of the Year. Hegerle led the Jimmies to a 37-2 overall record and first championship title in his 14th season. The team reached the championship match for the first time in school history this season and won over Corban (Ore.) in five sets. This marks the second time in the last three seasons he has been named National Coach of the Year. Hegerle ended the 2022 season with an overall coaching record of 372-116.
Anna Holen (SR/LaMoure, N.D.) was named as a first team NAIA All-American. Holen, who was named Most Valuable Player of the national tournament, had a team-high 462 kills and was second on the team with 541 digs. She ends her career as UJ’s all-time leader in digs (2204) and is tied for fourth all-time in kills (1368). This is the third time Holen has been named a first team All-American.
Lexi Olson (SO/Langdon, N.D.) was an honorable mention NAIA All-American selection. Olson led the Jimmies with 159 blocks, an average of 1.15 per set, and was tops in hitting percentage at .331. She was also fourth on the team with 276 kills.
