JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown men’s and women’s basketball teams capped off its homestand on Wednesday night with a pair of wins over rival Valley City State University.

WOMEN’S: JAMESTOWN 64, VALLEY CITY 43

Both sides struggled to score in the first 20 minutes of play as the Vikings and Jimmies each shot under 35% during the first half. UJ led 28-24 at the break and VCSU kept the game within four points until the final two minutes of the third quarter when the Jimmies used a 9-0 to enter the fourth up by 13. Jamestown would score the first seven points of the fourth quarter and some stout defense by UJ helped the Jimmies improve to 8-2 on the year.

Audrey Rodakowski was the leading scorer for Jamestown with 16 points on 8-9 shooting from the floor. The Jimmie held VCSU to seven points in the third quarter and ended the game plus 17 on the glass. Adriana Torres led the Vikings with 12 points. UJ heads to Yankton, South Dakota on Saturday to face Mount Marty in GPAC play. Valley City, now 8-3, snapped a four-game win streak coming into play Wednesday evening. The Vikings are off until December 18th and 19th when they take on William Carey and #12 Morningside at the Hoop and Surf Classic in Hawaii.

MEN’S: #6 JAMESTOWN 102, VALLEY CITY 86

A tightly contested first half had the Jimmies ahead 43-35 at the break. VCSU held within 10-14 points all night until a pair of Reid Gastner threes distanced the Jimmies from the Vikings and allowed Jamestown to pull away. Mason Walters had another 30 point night, finishing with 34 points and eight rebounds. Cole Woodford had a career-high 22 points and Reid Gastner ended the night with 19 points. VCSU’s Joseph Owens led all Viking scorers with 16 points. VCSU falls to 6-6 on the season while Jamestown improves to 9-2. The Jimmies travel to Mount Marty Saturday while Valley heads to Hawaii on December 18th.
