SIOUX CITY, IA. (NewsDakota.com) – The #2 University of Jamestown women’s volleyball team opened up pool play at the NAIA National Tournament with a straight sweep of Rocky Mountain College. Set scores were 25-21, 25-19, and 25-18.
Rocky Mountain jumped out to a 4-0 advantage in set one and eventually led 13-10 before Megan Moser led the Jimmies on a 7-0 run to take control in the first set. UJ and Rocky Mountain fought back and forth in set two before Jamestown pulled ahead to go in front 2-0. Jamestown cruised to a 20-5 lead in the third set after taking the wind out of the sails of the Battlin Bears at the end of set two.
Kalli Hegerle led UJ with 15 kills and a .289 attack percentage. Hegerle also picked up a team-high 22 assists and had six digs. Anna Holen ended the match with 16 digs and nine kills and Ellie Holen had a match-high 28 digs. Rocky Mountain was held to a .068 hitting percentage on the afternoon.
The Jimmies, now 33-2 on the year and winners of 14 consecutive matches, face #15 College of Saint Mary in the final match of Pool B on Friday at 10:00 AM. With a victory, Jamestown would then play in the quarterfinals on Saturday evening.
