VALLEY CITY, ND  (NewsDakota.com)  Beyond the threat of two-time NAIA All-American Mason Walters, the Jimmie mens basketball team entered the night Saturday shooting over 50% from the three-point line.

The Jimmies picked up where they left off with Presentation College in their previous outing.

A blistering three-point attack finished the first half 11-21 in a 55-point performance, then turned to Walters to finish the night in a 103-84 win for the University of Jamestown over Valley City State in Valley City.

Walters finished the night with 34 points on 15-18 shooting from the field.  The Jimmies shot 17-36 from behind the three-point line, 47% for the evening, and ended the night at 59% from the field with 41 field goals.

The Jimmies had built a 30-17 lead in the first 10 minutes, lead by a 6-10 performance from beyond, and finished the first half with a 55-36 lead.

Valley City State was not able to induce a wide turnover advantage with their trapping pressure.  The Vikings forced 15 turnovers, committing 10 of their own, while the pace of the game overcame what was, in the end, a minimal number of turnovers overall.  The game had 139 shot from the field combined.

Walters’ 34 was complimented with 11 rebounds.  Cole Woodford added 18, and Reid Gastner 15 on a combined 11-18 from the three-point line.

The Vikings were led by 19 points from Duoth Gach, with Tate Hebrink added 16 and Joseph Owens chipping in 11.

The Jimmies improve to 3-0 on the season, while the Vikings slip to 3-3.
