VALLEY CITY, ND  (NewsDakota.com)  Today marks the end of the Valley City State University Viking football season, as they meet their rivals in Fargo.

The Vikings travel to the Fargodome to face Mayville State in the regular season finale.  The two teams collaborated to move the game to Fargo.

VCSU is hoping to avoid a sub-.500 season.  They enter the game 4-5 after a win over Presentation last week.  They are 3-2 in North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) play.

Mayville State entered the season with high hopes behind one the top passing attacks in the league.  They are currently 3-7, and unsettled at quarterback.  The Comets list freshman Micah Southwick as their starter today, but most were expecting sophomore Tim Salmon back in the lineup.

Salmon racked up 2163 yards and 21 touchdowns in under nine games, before exiting with an injury.  His top target, sophomore Javian Davison has 44 catches for 634 yards and eight scores.

The Vikings will also be using a different quarterback, but it’s a return, not a substitution.  Avery Thorsgard (Soph., Northwood, ND) returned last week to replace Noah Chambers (Fr., Juneau, AK).  Thorsgard was the original starting quarterback for the Vikings before sustaining an arm injury in the second game of the season against Concordia.

Game time is scheduled for 1:00 PM, with pregame coverage around 12:45 PM from the Fargodome on KOVC.
