VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – A Valley City man who pleaded guilty to felony child abuse and aggravated assault of his two month old girl was sentenced to ten years in prison on Tuesday, November 8th.

According to court documents, the baby received severe head trauma after her father became frustrated by her crying and lack of eating on January 19th. The infant may have suffered permanent injuries according to her doctors.

Court documents say Barnes County deputies were called by Sanford Hospital in Fargo on January 22nd after an infant came in with what appeared to be extensive injuries from ‘non-accidental trauma’ according to doctors.

During his sentence hearing, Justin Gibson said, “he was deeply remorseful, he believed none of this would have happened if he had been sober. He said, I take responsibility for my actions and wish I could take it back.”

Judge Jay Schmitz sentenced Gibson to 10 years in prison with credit for 290 days already served in the Barnes County jail. Judge Schmitz also ordered Gibson to be on supervised probation for two years following Gibson’s release from prison.
