NAPOLEON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Opening day of the 2022 Class B Region 3 Volleyball tournament was held on Monday at Napoleon High School Gymnasium with four quarterfinal contests, here are the results:

#10 Lamoure/Litchville/Marion 3  South Border 2

The number four seed from District 6 gave it all they had against the District 5 champs and number 10 ranked team in the state, but come up a little short to the Loboes of Lamoure/Litchville/Marion dropping in five sets (25-17, 23-25, 22-25, 25-17, 16-14). Senior Emily Jochim had a stellar match, 18 kills and two aces to lead South Border. Junior Heidi Steffes had 19 kills to lead LLM, including the winning kill in the fifth set. SB ends their season at 13-14 overall, No. 10 LLM improves to 24-9 overall.

Carrington 3  Strasburg/Zeeland 0

The Cardinals of Carrington had to come from behind in each of the three sets early on to sweep the Clippers and move into the first semifinal Tuesday night (25-22, 25-17, 25-23). The three matches were fairly competitive throughout, as there were nine ties in the first set, eight in the second and seven in the third, including a tie at 23 in set three. The Cardinals have made a Region tourney semifinal appearance every year since 2009. SZ ends their season at 22-11 overall. Carrington, the three seed from District 5, improves to 27-8 overall.

#1 Linton/HMB 3   Edgeley/KM 0

The Edgley-Kulm-Montpelier Rebels fought hard but were just unable to take a set from the #1 team in the state in the Linton/HMB Lions falling in straight sets (25-23, 25-21, 25-14). The Lions are the first and only District 6 team to make it through the first round of the Region Tournament. The sets were pretty even especially the first two. EKM had a large lead in set 2 that they were just unable to hold onto. This is Linton’s fifth straight semifinal appearance and they will continue to defend their State Title. EKM ends the season with a 16-18 overall record. Linton rises to 34-1 overall.

#9 Oakes 3  Medina/PB 0

The Oakes Tornadoes started off slow but were able to pick it up and take three straight sets against the Medina-Pingree/Buchanan Thunder (25-20, 25-14,25-23). The Thunder started off set one strong jumping out to an 8-2 lead before the Tornadoes flipped the script and took the lead back and held it at 15-14. Set two was all Tornadoes with them jumping out and expanding on their lead through out the set. Set three saw MPB have the lead for the entire set up to 20-20 when the tornadoes would take the lead and win 25-23. The Tornadoes have made their seventh straight semifinal appearance now and rise to a record of 24-7 overall. The Thunder end their season with a 23-12 record.

25 minutes after – #1 Linton/HMB vs #9 Oakes (semifinal)
