VALLEY CITY, ND (vcsuvikings.com)- The Valley City State volleyball team took a five-set win over Presentation College in its regular season finale Friday night in Graichen Gym. The Vikings defeated the Saints by final scores of 25-21, 18-25, 25-14, 18-25 and 15-13.

After trading the momentum back-and-forth in the first four sets, the Vikings and Saints kept the fifth set close with neither team leading by more than three points the whole way.

With the Vikings leading 11-8, the Saints found three straight kills to tie the set at 11. Later tied at 13, VCSU’s final two points came from back-to-back blocks, first by Morgan Nelson and Emma Lucas followed by another from Morgan Nelson and Bailey Nelson.

VCSU improves to 11-16 overall and 6-8 in the NSAA. Valley City State currently sits in fifth place in the conference standings. Presentation is in sixth place in the NSAA standings with a 5-8 conference record and is 8-21 overall. The NSAA regular season concludes with three conference matches on Saturday, including Presentation at Dickinson State.

Bailey Nelson tallied 23 kills Friday and Morgan Nelson added 11 kills and a career-best nine blocks (8 assisted, 1 solo) for the Vikings. Emma Lucas added a career-high five blocks paired with five kills Friday.

Sadie Hansen tallied 44 set assists, 23 digs and six kills for the Vikings. JayCee Richter posted a team-high 33 digs while Delani Clarke added 22. Danielle Hagler finished with 13 digs and eight kills for VCSU.

Grace Tobin led the Saints with 23 kills and 28 digs Friday, and Kerstin Knopik added 13 kills and six assisted blocks. Laura Babcock paced Presentation defensively with 35 digs.

Sydney Miller finished Friday’s match with 26 set assists and three service aces, and Olivia Corey added 24 assists for Presentation.

UP NEXT: VCSU travels to Watertown, S.D. for the North Star Athletic Association Postseason Tournament on Nov. 11-12. The final regular season standings and tournament schedule will be released Saturday.
