Colton Mewes and Jackson Walters celebrate a blocked punt recovered for a touchdown

JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown High School football team scored 42 consecutive points in the first half on Friday night at Hansen Stadium as the Blue Jays defeated Grand Forks Central 49-20 in the opening round of the 11A playoffs.

GF Central began the game with a touchdown to take a 7-0 lead before Jamestown opened up the floodgates. Aden Braun scored on the first drive from 12 yards out and the Jays converted the two-point to conversion to take the lead for good.

The Blue Jays would go on to score on the next four offense drives with Payton Hochhalter finding the endzone from four yards away on fourth and goal to give Jamestown a 15-7 lead. After a Kelan Harstad fumble recovery, Hochhalter hit Braun from 19-yards out for his second score of the game.

Jamestown would get the ball back almost immediately as Hochhalter picked off Central quarterback Dylan LaMont near the end of the opening quarter. At the start of the second, Jackson Walters hauled in his 12th touchdown of the season to push the Jays in front 29-7.

Hochhalter’s big day continued on defense when he intercepted LaMont for the second time in the middle of quarter two. Jamestown drove down the field and Braun would find paydirt for the third time on a 12-yard carry straight up the gut. The Blue Jays jumped ahead 42-7 going into the half after senior Colton Mewes blocked a punt and then recovered it in the endzone for six points.

Jamestown controlled the rest of the game after essentially putting the game away in the first 24 minutes. Braun finished with three total touchdowns, two on the ground and one receiving. Hochhalter had 73 yards rushing and 178 yards passing to go along with three total touchdowns and two interceptions on defense. The Blue Jays were plus four in the turnover margin.

Jamestown moves to 8-2 on the season and advances to semifinal play next Friday night at home against Grand Forks Red River. Start time is still TBD. Coverage can be heard on Jamestown 107.1/1400, online at newsdakota.com, or on the Jamestown 107.1 app.
