LEAL, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Day two of the 2022 Class B District 5 Volleyball tournament was held at Barnes County North High School Gym on Friday with another three matches, here are the results:
Griggs/Midkota 3 Barnes County North 0 (elimination match)
Senior Asia Becherl had double digit kills to help the Titans of GM defeat the Bison of BCN in the first match Friday. Griggs/Midkota controlled most of set one, set two was a different story, consisting of 15 total ties. BCN had set point in set two, but GM outscored the Bison 5-1 down the stretch and get the victory. The number seven seeded Bison of BCN go 0-2 in the tourney and end their season at 2-23 overall. Set scores (25-14, 27-25, 25-22).
Lamoure/Litchville/Marion 3 Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier 1 (semifinal)
The Rebels of EKM came out strong in set number one, leading throughout, but the Loboes of LLM tried a comeback and got within one, but the fourth seeded Rebels would put it away late. The Loboes controlled most of set two, set three was closer with seven ties and they had to come from behind as well to win it. In set five, LLM led 18-6 at one point and led the entire way to secure the 3-1 victory. RV LLM and the number one seed in the tourney will move into the district championship match on Monday night and also qualify for the Region 3 tourney in Napoleon starting November 7th. Set scores (23-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-12).
Oakes 3 Carrington 0 (semifinal)
In a very close match and some great plays by both teams, the number two seeded Tornadoes defeat the three seeded Cardinals in three straight sets (25-18, 25-23, 25-18). No. 7 Oakes improves to 23-6 overall, Carrington drops to 25-8 overall. Carrington was the two-time defending District 5 champs, so there will be a new champion this year. Oakes also qualifies for the Region 3 tournament.
MONDAY’S SCHEDULE:
4pm – Ellendale vs. Carrington (Region 3 qualifier)
25 minutes after – Edgeley/KM vs. Griggs/Mid. (Region 3 qualifier)
25 minutes after – Lamoure/LM vs. Oakes (championship)
