The proposed site of a future Dollar General store in Jamestown

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – City Councilmember Dan Buchanan expressed concerns on the future site of a proposed Dollar General in Jamestown.

During the Building, Planning, and Zoning Committee meeting Tuesday, the first reading of a zoning change of 424 4th Ave. NE from General Multiple Dwelling District to Local Commercial District was held.

Buchanan said he was concerned with the distance from Lincoln Elementary.

City Building Inspector Tom Blackmore informed Buchanan and the committee that the issue has been discussed and approved by the Jamestown Board of Adjustments

Buchanan says his concerns come from potentially increased traffic and how it’ll affect Lincoln Elementary and the Legacy Center.

Blackmore added that in public hearings, there was no one who appeared with opposition to the project.

Councilmember Dave Steele added that he and Councilmember Brian Kamlitz had attended the meeting and similar discussion was held.

Mayor Dwaine Heinrich added that because this is a first reading, there will be roughly two months to allow for more input on the proposed zone change.

The first reading was approved on a 4-1 vote with Councilmember Dan Buchanan voting in opposition.
