JAMESTOWN, ND. (jimmiepride.com) – Cambree Martens (FR/Morden, MB) scored to break a 2-2 third period tie and the University of Jamestown women’s hockey team added two more goals down the stretch in a 5-3 win over the University of Minnesota Sunday afternoon at Wilson Arena.

The Jimmies tralied 3-2 after the second intermission, but Martens took a pass from Kelsey Amick (FR/Mitchell, S.D.) to score her first career goal at 7:59 of the third. After the Golden Gophers’ Liv Carlson was called for interference at 15:55, Martens tallied her second of the game 18 seconds into the power play to make it 4-3. Bethany Wielgosh (FR/Beausejour, MB) and Crystal Wale (JR/Moose Jaw, SK) were credited with the assists.

Wale added an insurance goal at 18:39 on an assist from Margaux Kautzmann (FR/Mandan, N.D.).

Carlson gave Minnesota a 1-0 lead at 2:52 of the first, but the Jimmies would respond later in the period. Kennedy Hauser (FR/Lorette, MB) notched her first goal of the year at 13:10, assisted by Amick and Martens, to even the score.

The Golden Gophers retook the the lead at 9:53 of the second period on Carlson’s second of the game, a power play goal set up by Allie Skoro. Annika Braun (FR/Altona, MB) brought the Jimmies level at the 13:10 mark, putting home a rebound off a pass from Samantha Beaulac.

Two minutes and two seconds later, Erica Lieske put Minnesota back in front, the second lead change of the period.

UJ goaltender Lilah Drew (FR/Bolton, ON) stopped 32 shots, her fourth straight appearance with 31 or more saves.

Shots were 35-33 in favor of Minnesota. Both teams had multiple power play opportunities, with the Golden Gophers finishing 1-for-5 and UJ 1-for-3 with the extra player advantage.

Jamestown is back in action next Friday, beginning a weekend series at home against Midland (Neb.) at 3:45 p.m.
