JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown football team couldn’t overcome a 16-0 deficit early as the Jimmies fell 23-16 to Hastings.

Hastings led 10-0 at the end of the first half and UJ couldn’t muster points until less than five minutes in the third quarter. Trailing 16-0, Cade Torgerson connected with Javon Bowie-Monteiro on a five-yard pass. The Jimmies came back within seven after Aanon Peterson hit a career-long 40-yard field goal to make it 16-9 early in the fourth quarter.

On the ensuing kickoff, Hastings returner Antoine Murphy took it 87 yards to put the Broncos up for good. Bowie-Monteiro scored the late touchdown for the Jimmies with less than two minutes to go for his 16th in his UJ career. Jamestown was unable to recover the onside kick and Hastings kneeled out the clock.

Torgerson went 28-58 through the air with 308 yards and two touchdowns. Despite the loss, Torgerson surpassed Beau Erickson for first place in all-time career passing in UJ history. Bowie-Monteiro tied the game-high in receptions with eight and Micah Madyun also had eight catches for 134 yards.

The Jimmies drop to 3-6 on the year while Hastings improves to 7-2 overall. UJ travels to Dordt next Saturday to face the Defenders before a bye week.
