(NewsDakota.com)- In the final minutes of last nights game at the Civic Center it appeared that the 6-5 Jimmies were on the verge of a big upset over the No. 7 William Penn Statesmen. Leading by six with just two minutes remaining, Jamestown College was unable to hold on to their lead. The Statesman escaped with a 78-75 win.
William Penn heading into the game was the nation’s top scoring team averaging 106.4 points per game, but the Jimmies answered the call on the defensive end allowing just 78 points.
Mark Hoge led the Jimmies with 29, but fouled out with 40 second remaining. He was one of three starters that watched the conclusion helplessly from the bench. Davon Thomas and Dan Janu also fouled out.
After Hoge fouled out, the Statesman made a pair of free throws to pull within one. On the ensuing inbound Aaron Stemen turned it over leading to an easy layup for Taylor Stoutner to give William Penn the lead for the final time.
The Jimmies fall to 6-6 on the season and the Statesman improve to 14-0. Jamestown College will host Dickinson State next Saturday at the Civic Center beginning with the women’s game at 4pm.
