JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The #1 Mustangs of Morningside showed why they are the top team in NAIA football on Saturday at Hansen Stadium with a 59-7 victory over the Jimmies.

Jamestown forced a couple of turnovers during the first three drives for Morningside but couldn’t capitalize in the redzone. Morningside took a 14-0 lead into the second quarter and then scored 28 more points before the Jimmies could get on the scoreboard.

Jamestown’s lone touchdown came with just over two minutes to go until the half. On 4th and 10 from the Morningside 14-yard line, Cade Torgerson found Isaiah Roebuck in the endzone for the first and what turned out to be the only touchdown of the day for UJ.

Torgerson went 19-41 for 159 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Zach Hammett led the rushing attack for the Jimmies with 39 yards on 10 carries. Micah Madyun was the leading receiver, finishing with four catches and 53 yards. Roebuck had the lone touchdown to go along with four receptions and 38 total yards.

For Morningside, the Mustangs put up 480 yards from scrimmage in the first half. Quarterback Joe Dolincheck threw for the third most yards in Morningside history with 503 yards passing and five touchdowns.

#1 Morningside moves to 6-0 overall and in the GPAC with the win. UJ drops to 3-5 on the year and 2-5 in the conference with Hastings coming to Hansen Stadium next Saturday for senior day. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM.
