JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – As more hunting seasons open, the potential for violations by hunters and non-hunters alike increases.

Game & Fish Wildlife Biologist Doug Leier reports that they encourage hunters, anglers, and landowners who witness a wildlife or fish violation to use the Report All Poachers hotline, or RAP.

Leier added there are some details you can make note of when calling in a report.

The RAP line offers rewards – from $100 to $1,000 depending on the nature and seriousness of the crime – for information leading to the conviction of fish and wildlife law violators. Reports can also go directly to game wardens or other law enforcement agencies.

Witnesses can call to report a violation by dialing 701-328-9921 or contact your local authorities.

Leier says they’re also reminding residents and non-residents that you need a permit to possess dead deer in North Dakota.

In addition, hunters are reminded to properly dispose of dead deer. Carcass waste cannot be left on public property, including roadways, ditches or wildlife management areas.

You can listen to Doug Leier talk the great outdoors every Thursday at 7:40 AM on Big Dog 95.5 FM.
