VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown law enforcement responded to a false report of an active shooter on Thursday, October 13th just before 11am. The Jamestown School District locked down buildings until officials received the all clear order.

Valley City Public School District Superintendent Josh Johnson said, “over the past couple of weeks, and across the region in (South Dakota, Jamestown, Grand Forks, & Bismarck), people are making “false” claims of school violence/active shooters using the phone and social media. He said we are closely following these situations in partnership with School Resource Officer (SRO) Sean Hagen and the Valley City Police Department.”

School Resource Officer Sean Hagen.

Hagen is guiding Valley City Public Schools staff members on how to handle these calls.

Johnson said, if necessary, “we will further notify our students, staff, and parents using our methods of communication in the school district (phone, email, social media, etc..). We will continue to follow our formal safety procedures (investigations, etc..), however, we believe these new reports are connected with prior “false” reports that occurred in the past month across the country.”
