(NDAgConnection.com) – Based on October 1 conditions, North Dakota’s 2022 corn production is forecast at 381 million bushels, down slightly from last year’s production, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Area to be harvested for grain, at 2.70 million acres, is down 26% from a year ago. Yield is forecast at 141 bushels per acre, up 36 bushels from last year.

Soybean production is forecast at 198 million bushels, up 9% from last year. Area for harvest, at 5.65 million acres, is down 21% from 2021. Yield is forecast at 35 bushels per acre, up 9.5 bushels from last year.

Dry edible bean production is forecast at 9.96 million cwt, up 56% from 2021. Area for harvest, at 550,000 acres, is down 11% from last year. Yield is estimated at 1,810 pounds per acre, up 780 pounds from last year.

Sugarbeet production is forecast at 6.40 million tons, down 1% from 2021. Area for harvest, at 249,000 acres, is up 12% from last year. Yield is estimated at 25.7 tons per acre, down 3.5 tons from a year ago.

All sunflower production is forecast at 1.30 billion pounds, up 70% from last year. Acreage for harvest, at 702,000 acres, is up 46% from 2021. Yield is forecast at 1,846 pounds per acre, up 265 pounds from a year ago. Of the acres for harvest, non-oil sunflowers account for 52,000 acres and oil sunflowers account for 650,000 acres.

Canola production is forecast at a record 3.42 billion pounds, up 48% from last year. Acreage for harvest, at 1.78 million acres, is up 3% from 2021. Yield is forecast at 1,920 pounds per acre, up 580 pounds from a year ago.

Alfalfa hay production, at 2.31 million tons, is up 179% from last year. Area for harvest, at 1.05 million acres, is up 14% from a year ago. Yield of 2.20 tons per acre, is up 1.30 tons from 2021. All other hay production, at 2.19 million tons, is up 73% from last year. Area for harvest, at 1.25 million acres, is up 14% from a year ago. Yield of 1.75 tons per acre, is up 0.60 ton from 2021.
