Carrington, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—-The Carrington Cardinals racked up 259 rushing yards and controlled the game clock throughout the game to defeat Harvey-Wells County 28-6 in Region 2 Class B 11 man football. Carrington (3-4) kept their playoff hopes alive and can qualify with a win at Langdon in 2 weeks. The Cardinals ran 64 offensive plays to the Hornets 38 total snaps.
Hudson Topp did the bulk of the damage on the ground with 110 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns on 30 carries. All 3 TD runs were from the 1 yard line. Logan Weninger added 96 yards on 13 carries and Kael Kovar added 24 yards on 8 carries with a touchdown. Kovar also added 3 receptions out of the backfield for 52 yards accounting for all the Cardinal catches. Carrington did not turn the ball over in the game while the Hornets turned it over 4 times including 3 second half interceptions.
Josh Bickett finished the night 3-6 passing for 52 yards and added 8 rushing yards for the Cardinals and led the offense to a turnover free night with 311 total yards of offense.
The Hornets couldn’t find much success on the ground (14 carries for 30 yards) so they went to the air and completed 11 of 24 passes from Sophomore quarterback Tallen Thorson. Gabe Almaras hauled in 6 receptions for 105 yards to lead the Hornet receivers. Brock Fike scored the lone Hornet touchdown on a 33 yard second quarter score. Kayl Sieg added 2 catches for 18 yards and also led the Hornets on the ground with 31 yards on 9 carries.
The Cards led 14-6 at halftime on a pair of Topp TD runs, 1 in each quarter. Kovar added a TD run with 9 seconds left in the third quarter to give the Cards a 21-6 lead and sealed the victory with another Topp score with 4:05 to play. The Hornets dropped to 2-5 overall and Carrington improved to 3-4 overall.
