In-state rivals met once again Friday evening at Wilson Arena as the 14th-ranked University of Jamestown ACHA D1 hockey team hosted No. 4 Minot State University.

The Beavers came away with a 4-3 victory, the fourth time in the last five meetings that one goal decided the game.

It was the visitors scoring first Friday, as Joey Moffatt tallied the first Minot State goal at 3:24 from Jay Buchholz. Jamestown drew level at the 17:33 mark of the first as Jordan Baranesky (FR/Red Lake, Ontario) picked up his fourth of the season with assists by Andrew Clark (JR/Spokane, Wash.) and Logan Berggren (JR/Cypress, Calif.).

Moffatt and Buchholz combined again for the second Beaver goal, coming at 12:35 of the second to make it 2-1. A Minot State penalty at 15:45 gave UJ a power play opportunity, and the Jimmies wasted little time as Morgan Venne (JR/Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) scored five seconds into the man advantage to tie the game at 2-2. Greg Susinski (JR/Calgary, Alberta) assisted on the goal. Minot State then broke the tie as Buchholz scored from Christian Kadolph at 16:33 and the Beavers led by a goal heading into the final 20 minutes.

The lead grew to 4-2 after Eric Soar scored 5:59 into the third, but UJ capitalized again on the power play as Venne netted his second of the night at 10:17 from Clark and Baranesky.

Jamestown appeared to have tied the game with a little over three and a half minutes left. Berggren stuffed in a loose puck and the Jimmies reacted in jubilation, but the referee ruled the puck did not cross the goal line and was saved by goalie Jake Anthony.

The teams return to action Saturday for the second half of the home-and-home series in Minot with puck drop set for 7:30 p.m.
