Jake Thompson with Monroe Crossing band members
BUFFALO, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The following is a feature story written about Jake Thompson by his grandmother Sheila Thompson.
“We first met “Monroe Crossing” when they were playing at the Red Trail Vineyard in Buffalo, N.D. We live across the road. I have a grandson, Jake Thompson and he has a lot of special needs. He’s had several brain surgeries, is crippled on his right side because of cerebral palsy, he can walk with a leg brace. He went blind in his left eye at the age of 4. He’s had so many life flights to Rochester, M.N. for brain surgeries. He can see out of one eye, but his balance is bad. However, he is so happy and loves life. He cannot read or write, but loves music!
We walked across the road and started talking to Matt and Lisa of “Monroe Crossing” and they were so nice to Jake. He wanted to give them a ride on his hot rod that grandpa made for him, so they came to our house for a ride.
All the band members talked to him and took pictures with him. They were so caring and nice and truly cared about Jake, who they had never met before.
That day at their concert they sang a special song just for Jake and he was so proud! We last saw them in Fargo at a concert a few years ago and of course we got pictures! So I ordered 8×10’s and put them on his bedroom wall. We just love that band, but especially Jake. He keeps saying Matt is his hero!
Monroe Crossing has a special place in our hearts because they truly care.”

*Editor’s note, “Monroe Crossing” had to cancel their concert in Valley City due to a COVID-19 related illness. The band “Tucker’D Out” will be the featured band at the Eagles Club on Friday, September 30th starting at 7pm.
