Valley City, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City Hi-Liners won their first set at home since August 30th but were not able to get past the #1 Sheyenne Mustangs, falling 3-1 ( 18-25, 25-22, 18-25, 9-25).

The first set was close throughout the set with no team being able to expand the lead past 4 for most of the set. The Hi-Liners and Mustangs were tied and trading points from 10-10 all the way to 17-17. After that the Mustangs jumped on a 7 point run to take a 24-17 lead. They would win set one 25-18.

The second set was more of the same with both teams fighting back and forth for the entire set. The lead would change 4 times in set two as well. Both teams were tied 20-20 late in the set however Valley City would be able to jump to a 23-20 lead and then finish the set 25-22. Taking one from the best team in the state.

The Mustangs would jump out to an early 8-4 lead in the third set and not look back. They would retain a 3 point lead at most through most of the set and not allow the Hi-Liners to get any runs going. They would take the set 25-18.

Set four was all Mustangs. They pounced on an early opportunity to take a 5-1 lead then expand it to 11-2. They would take the set 25-9.

The Hi-Liners will continue their season on Tuesday when they head out to Grand Forks Central.
