M.N. (NewsDakota.com) – Sekani Milligen scored 36 points but it wasn’t enough Tuesday night as the Valley City State’s men’s basketball team lost 79-66 during an exhibition game at MSU-Moorhead.
Milligen knocked down eight 3-pointers and single handedly kept VCSU close most of the game.
But Milligen’s big night was offset by Anthony Tucker, who led MSUM with 31 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. He scored 21 second-half points, answering anytime VCSU tried to make a run. Alex Novak added 18 points and nine rebounds inside for the Dragons.
VCSU assistant coach Nathan Stover said the Vikings grew as a team in the game, despite the loss.
Milligen was the only Viking to score in double digits.
VCSU is back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 4, with a men’s and women’s doubleheader at University of Minnesota-Morris. Women at 5:30 p.m., men at 7:30 p.m., radio coverage starting at 5:15 p.m. on Dakota Country Radio.
Both the VCSU men and women are rated No. 19 in the first regular season NAIA Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll released on Tuesday afternoon. The men are up five spots, and the women up seven spot from their preseason rankings.
