JAMESTOWN, ND. (jimmiepride.com) – Morningside (Iowa) scored twice in the second half Saturday afternoon, sending the University of Jamestown men’s soccer team to a 2-0 defeat at the Jimmie Turf Field.
The loss puts the Jimmies’ overall record at 2-5-1 and 0-1-1 in the conference, while the Mustangs improve their record to 3-3-1 overall and 2-0-0 in the GPAC.
Levi Von Hagen capitalized on a pass from Jonas Markfoged and beat UJ keeper Mateo Salazar (SO/Aspen, Colo.) to make it 1-0 in the 54th minute.
The match stayied 1-0 unitl Gero Zarbo added an insurance goal in the 89th minute with an assist from Max Sickenberger.
Jamestown had a pair of scoring chances in the latter part of the match but Jack Crombie (SO/Edinburgh, Scotland)’s 72nd minute header went wide and Frankie Parkinson (SO/Bournemouth, England)’s 80th minute shot on goal was saved by the Morningside keeper.
Salazar made two saves for UJ but had his personal streak of 188 minutes and 38 seconds without allowing a goal broken.
Next up for the Jimmies is a road match Thursday at Hastings (Neb.) College.
