The University of Jamestown men’s soccer team spotted Rocky Mountain (Mont.) College two first-half goals Sunday afternoon in the home opener at the Jimmie Turf Field. Despite scoring early in the second half, the Jimmies were unable to find the net again, losing 2-1.

Jamestown falls to 2-4-0 overall and begins conference play on Thursday hosting Midland (Neb.) University at 7 p.m.

Niclas Bickel’s two goals staked the Battlin’ Bears to a 2-0 lead at the half. Bickel’s first came in the fifth minute as he headed in Lorenzo Klamler’s cross pass past Jimmie keeper Mathew English (SO/Fort Walton Beach, Fla.) to make it 1-0.

Bickel struck again in the 17th minute with his second of the day and of the season, and UJ faced a two-goal deficit inside of twenty minutes.

Jamestown had one shot in the first half as Austin Shafer (SR/Jamestown, N.D.)’s attempt in the 16th minute hit the crossbar and caromed out of play.

In the 53rd minute, Frankie Parkinson (SO/Bournemouth, England) drilled a free kick from twenty yards out to cut the deficit to one goal.

Following Parkinson’s goal, Rocky Mountain came back on the offensive and put two quality shots on target but UJ’s Mateo Salazar (SO/Aspen, Colo.), who came on after halftime, was up to the challenge. Salazar made three more stops in the half to keep Jamestown in the match.

Unfortunately for the Jimmies, no further shots would materialize and the score ended 2-1.

Shots ended 13-4 in favor of Rocky as well as shots on goal (10-1).
