JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – Senior Bernadette Newman posted 18 kills, including eight in the second set, as #5 Jamestown prevailed over St. Mary’s in four sets. Set scores were 25-18, 25-22, 18-25, and 25-12.
Jamestown pulled away in the middle of the opening set behind three kills from Makenna Nold and Kinley Anderson. The Jays relied heavily on Newman, Nold, as well as a pair of late kills by Benét Fronk to win five of the final seven points in set two.
St. Mary’s used a 12-0 run in the third set to pull away from Jamestown in the set, but it was the way that the Blue Jays finished the third that allowed them to take set four. JHS went on a 6-0 run late in the third set and dominated the entirety of set four for a 25-12 victory.
Nold finished the match with 15 assists and eight kills for Jamestown. Fronk and Haylie Hakanson each had six kills as well, and Edie Hegerle added an ace and 12 assists. Newman’s 18 kills were the most for her in a match this season.
