MEDINA, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Stutsman County Commission moved ahead with helping to add accessibility improvements to the Medina polling location ahead of the November General election.

County Auditor and COO Jessica Alonge says this was brought to light by the Freedom Resource Center following the June Primary election.

The cost to rent a ramp for election day is approximately $2,250. Alonge says they also asked for the cost to purchase a permanent ramp. She says it’s the county’s duty to ensure each polling location is ADA compliant.

Medina City Commissioner Mitch Gunderson says he will bring forth the item to the Medina City Commission to help cover cost for the rental or permanent ramp.

He added he would be more in favor of a permanent ramp. The cost to install a permanent ramp is approximately $6,008.66. Commissioner Joan Morris made a motion that the county contributes $2,000 subject to a match from the City of Medina and Legion Hall. If the other parties fail to accomplish their share of the funding, the county would pay $2,250 for a ramp rental the ensure the county is covered for the November General Election.

The commission unanimously approved the motion along with making the Legion Hall in Medina a polling location. Ramone Gumke was not present at the meeting.
