BELCOURT, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown’s High School football team forced six turnovers on Friday night against Turtle Mountain in a 56-12 trouncing of the Braves.
The defense started the party on the first drive for the Braves when Nate Walz picked off the Turtle Mountain quarterback and went 52-yards to the endzone for a score. Jamestown QB Payton Hochhalter didn’t throw a ton of passes on Friday night, but he connected for big plays when he did. Hochhalter and Jackson Walters connected four times on the evening for a total of 171 yards and two touchdowns, including a 97-yard score in the first half.
Jamestown’s defense forced four turnovers during the first half of play and Noah Meissner had a pick-six for the Jays in the second half to put the game away for good. The clock was running for the majority of the second half.
In total, Walz finished with two interceptions, and Jamestown as a team had four INTs on the day. Meissner also had a fumble recovery, as did Preston Gall. Gall was the recipient of a 10-yard touchdown pass as well, his second of the year.
Hochhalter threw for 241 yards and had a one-yard rushing touchdown. Tyson Jorrison caught three passes for 57 yards and one score.
With the win, Jamestown improves to 2-0 on the year while TMCHS drops to 0-3. The Blue Jays host Grand Forks Central next Friday at Hansen Stadium with kickoff set for 7:00 PM.
