Coach’s Thoughts:

We lost 5-4 for the third time this season.  In those three matches we have dropped 7 three-set matches.  Our players have the skills and the strategy to win, we need to believe we can win.  We can’t take points off mentally or physically.  We need to have the drive to win every point and play confidently.

Kai and Alex continued their high level of doubles only dropping 3 games bringing their record to 4-1.  Kai went on to an efficient singles match, dropping only 3 games there as well.

Trey and Miles lost the second set in a tiebreaker and then started off 0-3 in the third before winning 6 of the last 7 games. Wow! Trey then went on to win the second set in his singles in a tiebreaker. In the third, he was down 5-4 before winning the last three games in a slug fest.

Trey won by changing his game up to play more consistent.  He said after the match that it felt like he wasn’t playing ‘real tennis.’  He was right – he wasn’t playing ‘real tennis;’ he was playing ‘winning tennis.’

Miles was down in his match and fought off 3 match points down 40-15.  He played more consistent on those points just like Trey. He ended up losing on the 5^th match point, but he learned that consistency is the way to go to play winning tennis.

Emmett, Casey, and Max played very well for stretches. We need to find a way to keep that level for entire games, sets and matches.

For the JV, 7^th grader Quin always had the attitude of ‘I’m going to win this point.’ He hustled and never gave up.  He attacked the ball and the net. He was able to play 5 matches (and go 5-0) as he only lost 5 games in his 5 matches!

Matthew was very aggressive at the net in both singles and doubles leading to a 4-1 record on the day. 7^th grader Jack  won his first match of his Hi-Liner career playing with Jon. This was the highest level of play the JV had on the season.  Nice work fellas.

Next action is Tuesday in VC for a non-conference match against Jamestown starting at 4:15pm.
