FARIBAULT, Minn.– Jackson Worner (SR/West Fargo, N.D.) shot a 1-under 71 Tuesday and claimed first-place honors at the MSUM Maverick Invite, played at the par 72, 6514-yard Faribault Golf Club.
Worner’s second-round 71, coupled with his 2-under 70 on Monday, enabled him to win by one shot over Marcus Belka of Minnesota State Mankato (72-70). Worner and Belka were joined by MSU-Mankato’s Ben Laffen (1-under 143) as the only players to finish under par.
Max Noffsinger (SO/Ft. Collins, Colo.) tied for ninth at 7-over 151 (77-74), followed by Benjamin Schaefer (JR/New Rockford, N.D.), who tied for 17th at 10-over 154 (78-76). Gehrig Geiss (SO/Glen Ullin, N.D.) tied for 22nd at 15-over 159 (80-79), and Shea Carroll (SO/Jamestown, N.D.) was 27th at 24-over 168 (86-82). Carter Wells (SR/Huron, S.D.), playing as an individual, tied for 13th at 9-over 153 (75-78).
Jamestown’s two-round score of 605 (305-300) was seven shots behind MSU-Mankato’s second team, and 18 shots in back of MSU-Mankato’s first team. North Central University was fourth with 619 (324-295), and Minot State fifth with 621 (314-307).
Next up for the Jimmies will be the UJ Fall Invite at Jamestown Country Club September 12-13.
