(NewsDakota.com)- Two teams in the national tournament, both basketball teams in action and a former Jimmie/Blue Jay becomes a NCAA DI National Champion were part of a busy sports weekend at Jamestown College.

The men’s soccer team got a 1-0 win over Rocky Mountain College in their third go-around with the Battlin’ Bears. RMC had beaten the Jimmies in the regular season twice, but JC got the win when it mattered most. Jade Johnson scored the lone goal and Thomas Cooke stopped 14 shots to vault the Jimmies into the “Sweet 16” of the NAIA National Tournament. They will play on November 26th against Auburn Montgomery (AL).

The Jimmie volleyball team made just their third trip to Nationals and were ousted in straight sets by Carroll College (MT). JC lost 25-18, 25-19, 25-17 in the opening round game played in Helena, MT. Carroll will now head to Sioux City, IA to play in the pool play rounds.

Its the second NAIA National Tournament appearance for Head Coach Jon Hegerle.

Former Blue Jay and Jimmie Katie Conlin placed 39th at the NCAA DI Cross Country meet this past weekend. Conlon, who runs for the Oregon Ducks, finished in 20 minutes and 15 seconds to be named an All-American. Oregon won the team title, their first since 1987.

Conlon was a 3-time All-American for the Jimmies before transferring to Oregon.

The Jimmie men’s basketball team swept away the competition at the Viterbo Classic in La Crosse, WI. On Friday night they beat Waldorf College (IA) 70-63 and then turned around to get revenge of a loss last week to Viterbo 63-55.

Junior Davon Thomas was named the tournament’s most valuable player.

The women’s basketball team visited Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud, MN to battle the St. Cloud State Huskies. It is the only game the Jimmies play in Minnesota this season and with four starters from our eastern neighbors it was a homecoming of sorts. However, the Huskies were able to pull away at the end to beat the Jimmies 69-55.
