The memorial service for Jerry Olson, 77, Hannaford, ND will be 11 am Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Faith Lutheran Church, Hannaford. A visitation will be held 6 pm Friday followed by a prayer service at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City ND. He passed away July 25 at Cooperstown Medical Center, Cooperstown, ND. Inurnment will be in St. George Cemetery, Cooperstown.
Jerry DelRay Olson was born March 2, 1945 in Hannaford, ND to Floyd and Elna (Knutson) Olson. He attended school in Hannaford and graduated there in 1963. He then served in the National Guard. Jerry worked for a time with the railroad before moving to Minneapolis. He worked for Pfizer Company, traveling many times to the east coast for training and checking on work related projects.
Jerry was always so proud to tell ”everyone” that he was sitting in Yankee Stadium when Mickey Mantle hit his 500th home run. He loved all his sports talks that he had with his son Derek.
In 1976, he moved back to his hometown of Hannaford. Jerry married the love of his life, Mary Hinschberger (Jones), on June 11, 1983. The couple lived in Hannaford and together they made a loving, close knit home. He worked at the Hannaford school as a custodian and when the school closed he followed the staff to the Cooperstown school. He also worked as custodian for Security State Bank, now known as Bank Forward, in Hannaford. Jerry retired from the school after 36 years in 2012 and retired from the bank after 46 years in 2021.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Mary; his son Derek, Fargo; his step daughter Sheila (Jason) Ralph, Fargo; two granddaughters Marria and Triniti, both Fargo; his sister Cyndi (Jerome) Gangl, Karen (Richard) Wahl and Kim Hook; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, aunts and friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and a stepson Tony Jones.
