(NewsDakota.com) The American Cancer Society Relay For Life® of Dickey County was recently honored by the Society with a Great West Division 2012 Per Capita Award .
The award is based upon Relay results from 13 States included in the Great West Division, and acknowledges fund raising excellence compared to other counties of similar size.
Dickey County Relay for Life event received a 1st place standing out of 39 other county populations within the 5,000-9,999 range. The success equaled $10.68 per resident.
“Our community is dedicated to helping further the American Cancer Society’s vision of a world with less cancer and more birthdays. This much appreciated recognition underscores Dickey County’s commitment to support the Society’s many vital programs and services that benefit people in our community and around the world,” said Lori Hayenga, co-chair for 2013 Dickey County Relay for Life.
Relay for Life events are held at an athletic track, park or other gathering area, with the goal of keeping at least one team member on the track or pathway at all times throughout the event. Teams do most of their fund raising prior to the event, but some teams also hold creative fund raisers at their camp sites during Relay. Relay celebrates people who have battled cancer, remembers loved ones lost, and provides participants with an opportunity to fight back against the disease.
