DICKEY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The annual Sweet N’ Stickey in Dickey Rib Cook-off was held on Saturday, July 9 in Dickey, N.D.
In its 13th year, the event showcased 26 cooks, all hoping to win a Sweet N’ Stickey in Dickey trophy and generate donations for Hospice of the Red River Valley. Nearly 300 people enjoyed 90 racks of ribs and numerous donated entrees, salads and desserts at the event. The event raised more than $20,000 for Hospice of the Red River Valley in memory of loved ones who have been cared for by the organization.
Six judges sampled and scored the entries to determine the Judge’s Choice award. The Judges’ Choice winners were: First Place – Herb Carpenter, Bismarck, N.D.; Second Place – Mitch Miller, Adrian, N.D. & Waylon Triepke, Dickey, ND; and Third Place – Greg Peterson, Fargo, N.D.
The People’s Choice winners were: First Place – Brent Carpenter, Jamestown, N.D.; and Second & Third Place was a tie – Thomas Kartes, Dickey, N.D. & Trey Isakson, Dickey, N.D.
“We are thoroughly grateful for the amazing support shown for this event year after year. The friendly competition, continued donations and returning smiles inspire us to host this event for Hospice of the Red River Valley every year. Thank you so much to all involved! We are thankful for what Hospice has done for us, and will do for our community in the future,” Chrissy Kartes, event organizer, said. Event committee members include Chrissy and Steven Kartes, and Dava and George Roder.
The 14th annual Sweet N’ Stickey in Dickey Rib Cook-off will be held on July 8, 2023.
