CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) There was a lengthy discussion concerning the future financial and staffing structure of the Sheyenne Valley Special Education Unit on Tuesday.

Unit Director Nick Klemish says the excess cost payment formula increased dramatically for school districts in the unit over the last three years due to staff salary adjustments and taxable valuation ratios related to population.

Valley City Schools Superintendent Dean Koppelman said services for special education students won’t change but the district will re-evaluate the situation and make a decision. He said nothing has been decided and the board is studying the issue. But a number of questions need to be answered.

The item was on addressed during a Valley City school board meeting on Tuesday.
