JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The bats were out in full force for Mandan and Jamestown on the opening night of the Phil Brown Classic as the Chiefs narrowly escaped Jack Brown Stadium with an 11-10 win over the Post 14 Eagles.

Mandan wasted no time scoring three runs in the first, including a two-run home run by Isaac Huettl. Jamestown would tie the game at three in the second before taking the lead in the third on a sac fly from Gage Orr, making it 4-3. One batter later with the bases loaded, Mason Lunzman doubled into the gap to score all three runs and push Jamestown ahead 7-3.

The score remained at 7-3 until the Chiefs put up five runs in the fifth, capped off by a three-run home run by Lucas Burgum. Post 14 was once again able to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth, this time off a throwing error that scored Orr. However, Mandan would push across three more runs in the top of the sixth which ended up being the difference in a win for the Chiefs.

At the plate, Mason Lunzman was 2-for-5 with five RBIs and a walk. Connor Hoyt and Preston Gall each went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Preston Kroeber finished 1-for-1 with a single and two runs scored. Starting pitcher Carson Orr went 4.1 innings, allowing seven hits and eight earned runs. Jackson Walters was handed the loss out of the bullpen after pitching 2.1 innings and giving up three runs.
